In the bustling and historic Ikenne local government, there are two individuals who stand out amongst the rest – a private business man and the Vice president of the Republic of Nigeria. While both individuals hold positions of power and influence within the community, their actions and impact on the people of Ikenne couldn’t be more different.
The private business man, whose name is not widely known but is revered by the locals for his generosity and benevolence, has been a true beacon of hope during the challenging times brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. While many people within Ikenne were struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table for their families, this private business man took it upon himself to provide much-needed assistance. He sent out survival packages to 300 families in each ward of the local government, containing essential items that would sustain them for a month or two. The estimated cost of each package was N200,000, a substantial sum that the private business man willingly spent to help those in need.
On top of his humanitarian efforts during the pandemic, the private business man also took it upon himself to address the infrastructure issues within the local government. One notable project he undertook was the reconstruction of a section of the Ikenne to Shagamu road, which had been in a deplorable state for years. With his own resources and without seeking any government assistance, he single-handedly funded and oversaw the reconstruction of the road, improving the quality of life for all those who traveled on it. His dedication to the well-being of the community and his willingness to take action where others had failed to do so truly set him apart as a leader and a benefactor of the people of Ikenne.
On the other hand, the Vice President of Nigeria, a prominent political figure and representative of the people of Ikenne, has not been as visible or active in addressing the needs of the community. While the Vice President holds a position of power and authority within the government, there have been few reports or instances of him directly engaging with the people of Ikenne or providing tangible assistance to those who need it most. In times of crisis and hardship, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vice President’s presence and influence could have made a significant impact on the lives of the people within his own local government. However, his lack of action and involvement raises questions about his commitment to serving the needs of his constituents and fulfilling his responsibilities as a public servant.
