Dedicated to Nigerians: A Reflection on Leadership

As a leader in any capacity, whether it be political, business, religious, civil service, sports administration, professional, union, or otherwise, it is crucial to take a step back and reflect on the responsibilities that come with our positions. Are we truly dedicated to the well-being of those under our care, or are we simply acting in our own self-interest?
One powerful metaphor that comes to mind when considering this question is that of the monkey. Monkeys are known for their mischievous behavior, often causing trouble and chaos wherever they go. In many ways, this behavior can be likened to poor leadership – acting in a self-serving manner without regard for the well-being of others.
When we are placed in positions of leadership, it is important to remember that we are taking on a responsibility to care for those under our charge. Just as a monkey wreaks havoc, a leader who acts without integrity and compassion can have harmful effects on those they lead. It is crucial for us to take a moment and check ourselves; are we truly dedicated to the betterment of our subordinates, or are we simply seeking to further our own interests at their expense?
One way to gauge our dedication to our role as leaders is to consider whether we truly deserve the prayers and well-wishes of our subordinates in our absence. Are we leading in a way that inspires respect, trust, and admiration from those we lead, or are we acting in a way that breeds resentment, fear, and distrust?

It is about leading by example, showing integrity, compassion, and fairness in all that we do. When we lead with dedication and care for those we lead, we inspire loyalty, dedication, and respect in return.
In Nigeria, a country with a long history of diverse leadership styles, it is more important than ever for leaders to reflect on their actions and motivations.
